Here is a list of local places that take used items that are in good condition. Instead of doing a drop-off at goodwill,  consider giving items to organizations/businesses in the community.

Toys/Clothes

Equipping the Called
(850 Vandalia Street Suite 310 & 320 Collinsville)

This nonprofit organization supplies foster and SAFE families with NEW clothes in excellent condition for newborn to young adults (teen style clothes only), Sneakers 5T & up, infant & children’s body wash and lotion, children’s ethnic hair care, hair dryers, curling wands, and flat irons. Needs vary throughout the year. They are very particular about donations they accept because they want the children who receive them to feel valued and dignified. Before dropping off donations, contact them to see if they have room for items. You can message them on facebook and send pictures of items you wish to donate. Grandma's Attic

They accept household items, clothes for all ages, toys, and shoes. Hours for shopping or dropping off items: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 9am-12pm. Thursdays 10am-Noon and Tuesdays evenings 5-7pm. You can call (618)345-9693 if you have questions. Main Street Resale Boutique
(1003 North Main Street Edwardsville, IL)

You can contact the Main Street Community Center at (618)656-0300 or infor@mainstcc.org to arrange donation drop off. Items accepted include: Pre-loved, name brand items in great condition, women’s tops/skirts/dresses, men’s athletic pullovers/polos, purses, scarves, belts, shoes, fashion jewelry, children’s toys/clothing, bedding sets, throw pillows, wall art, and household appliances. Hours: Monday-Friday 9am-3pm.

Glen Ed Food Pantry
(125 5th Ave Edwardsville, IL)

They accept toys, linens, dishes, decor, and clothes in great condition. They have a year-round thrift store on the second floor of the pantry called Second Chance. Furniture and beds/mattresses are not accepted. All donated items are available to clients free of charge, and clients can shop any time they are open. On the fourth Saturday of each month 8am-noon, they have a sale open to the public. For a $5 donation, shoppers can fill a bag with as much as they can fit. These funds go right back into services for clients. Donations can be dropped off at the pantry during regular hours. Normal Hours: Monday and Wednesday – 3pm to 5:30pm, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 9am-11:30am. The Macoupin Art Collective

Collinsville American Legion Post 365

Wood River Public Library

You can donate used books, CDs, and DVDs to the Wood River Library on the First Saturday of each month from 11am to 1pm. Donations are used in the library collection, sold in the book sale, or given away as prizes. https://www.woodriverlibrary.org

Blankets/Towels/Pet Food

Partners 4 Pets

They accept towels, blankets, and bedspreads. Sheets are not accepted. Items can be dropped off Monday-Friday from 8am to 4pm. Place items in a trash bag in case of rain or snow. They also use newspapers. https://www.partnersforpetsil.org

Metro East Humane Society
(8495 State Route 143 Edwardsville, IL)

They accept blankets, towels, and anything new/used on their supply wish list. http://www.mehs.org/supplies. Donations are welcome anytime and can be left at their front door or in the donation shed. The shed is located at the top of the driveway hill and immediately to the left, next to the large play yard. Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 11:30-5pm. Sunday 11:30-3pm.

Treehouse Wildlife Center
(23956 Green Acres Rd Dow, IL)

They have a wish list on their website, but items often needing replaced are food dishes including shallow dishes like what a flower pot would sit on for water to drain into, fleece blankets, t-shirts, towels, rags, measuring cups, shakers, aquarium anything including tanks, light bulbs, dog/cat food. Frozen vegetables and fruit is appreciated (not seasoned).  People wanting to donate can call the center before dropping off to ensure someone will be there. Furniture

Restore Decor

People can drop (mostly) wood furniture items off at their warehouse location at 200 Second Ave (off Rt 159 across from Dollar Tree and behind Smoothie King) on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from 10am to 1pm. The warehouse is open on Saturdays from 10am-1pm. They also accept some home decor items in good/current condition. They don’t accept upholstered furniture such as sofas & recliners. They also don’t accept large tv armoires. People are welcome to send them pictures of items to make sure they can use them or find them a new home. Pictures can be sent to their facebook page or texted to (618)980-1278. You can also email to restoredecoredwardsville@gmail.com. Volunteers are able to pick up some donations in the local Edwardsville area. Most of the items received are fixed up, painted, and refurbished by volunteers in the community.  Some are given directly to people in need. Most are sold on Saturdays at their retail locations (111 N. Second St & 223 N. Main St). The proceeds are given to families in need or other local nonprofits directly serving those in need.

Lewis & Clark Habitat for Humanity ReStore in the Orchards

All items donated fund the local Habitat for Humanity mission – to partner with families in need of decent, affordable housing. Donations they DO accept: Clothing, Shoes, Kitchen Items (dishes, bowls, tupperware, pots/pans, utensils, small appliances), Bedding, Bathroom Items (towels, washcloths, shower curtains), Toys, Puzzles, Purses, Handbags, Backpacks, and small musical instruments.
