Review: Learning Bundle from the Edwardsville Children’s Museum Madison County, IL

The Edwardsville Children's Museum (ECM) is a wonderful place to go for infants to age 12 to use their imagination and learn through play. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, ECM has had to temporarily close. The Education team at ECM has created Learning Bundles to help promote learning and family bonding. Prices range from $10 to $25 dollars based off of theme of bundle. There are three groups of Learning Bundles to choose from: All Ages, Early Learners 18mo-Kindergarten, and Elementary.

To obtain your Learning Bundle, go to www.edwardsvillechildrensmuseum.org to look at learning bundle options and place your order. After paying online, you will receive an email stating when you can pick your learning bundle up curbside. I ordered on a Monday and received notification that I could pick it up on Wednesday. It was a very easy process.

The pictures shown above are a before and after from the morning my daughter and I worked on it. The Learning Bundle I chose for her was called Early Learners – Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. I paid $10 for it. I picked this bundle because my kids love this book, and I am teaching my younger daughter her ABCs. The book was NOT included in this bundle. It contained 6 activities developed around the story. All supplies were provided except for glue and scissors.

Her favorite activity was recreated the tree on the blue sheet of paper by gluing every letter to it. We also made the tree using pre cut out pieces, stickers, and toilet paper roll. Next, we went on a scavenger hunt around the neighborhood to find items that started with each letter of the alphabet. Finally, we used the sand provided to draw each letter of the alphabet with her finger.

Two activities we did not complete included the write each letter packet and the make your own scavenger hunt sheet. My daughter is just a little too young for these activities right now. I plan on using them once we are focusing more on writing letters instead of just learning to recognize them.

A few things to add:

1) My daughter definitely could not have been completed this bundle without my assistance since she is so young. If you are looking for an activity for your young child to complete alone while you are working from home, this learning bundle wouldn’t work for that. You would at least need to sit next to your child to set up and monitor activity progress. However, other bundles may require less assistance. Elementary bundles may be more hands off simply because elementary kids can typically do more on their own.

2) There is a Learning Bundle called All Ages – Car-venture: Activities for the Road. It is $10 and includes activities perfect for time in the car. This bundle may be a good one to consider if you have a road trip coming up and need to entertain kids.

My daughter and I both enjoyed completing this bundle together. I am definitely thinking about purchasing another bundle to save for a rainy day or a busy week when planning much may be difficult. I hope this review was helpful. Please consider purchasing a Learning Bundle to support ECM and help your child learn through play.
